CVAF,
Thank you for giving me a chance, guidance, and support to get my life back on track. Before I came here 15 months ago I was living in a less than desirable homeless shelter, right in the middle of gang territory in Fresno, CA. I found out about the program, 110 miles from Fresno, from a person who used to be a resident at CVAF.
I came here making $210.00 a month with no savings. I left the CVAF preogram on the verge of making 42400.00 A MONTH.
When I first came here I remember Bob Piaro telling me " We will help you and give every chance to help yourself." When I came here, one of the rules was I had to have a saving account. Because of this rule, I had enough money to go to my brother's funeral in Utah and be there for my sister, also. I also paid for my daughter's wedding. After two years without teeth I also purchase a set of dentures. Without this program, I would not have been able to go to ny brother's funeral!
I have made some friendships that will last a lifetime, and will take with me the skills and determination to stay sober and get on with my life. The staff, from top to bottom, has been there for me and guided me with loving care, like making cookies at Christmas time with Judy. I felt special when I neeed a boost, this was my first Christmas in 30 years without my family.
Thank you, Bob and Judy. CVAF gives Veterans a positive outlook on life and a means to live it with. Thank you to all the CVAF staff.
